CHAPTER TEN

DANIEL

Over the past few weeks, my methodical routines, defined by work and the responsibilities of the campaign trail, have been replaced with an unexpected desire to come home earlier. And there's only one reason for that.

Farrah. Her name alone makes me want to smile. Once cold and empty, the mansion now feels alive with her presence. Every room carries traces of her, whether it's the scent of her shampoo or the books she leaves everywhere she goes.

I look forward to the end of the workday, a sensation I haven't felt in years. I no longer leave the office at the last minute. Instead, I rush home, hoping to spend more hours with her.

The nights we've spent together, having incredible sex and sharing our deepest secrets, have become my sanctuary. Each moment with her feels like a stolen treasure, one I want to cling to, yet I’m afraid to hold too close in case it slips away.

And it will. Each day I have to remind myself that Farrah is in my life temporarily and that I can't keep her. But it doesn't work anyway. Each day, I want her more than before.

At first, having sex with her sounded like an excellent idea. I thought I'd get it out of my system, but my heart is past the point of no return. Each day it becomes more apparent: I have become addicted, and there's no turning back.

Stepping into the house, I'm immediately met with the aroma of dinner.

"Farrah?" I call out, setting down my briefcase by the door.

"In the kitchen," she replies enthusiastically.

"You cooked?" I ask, surprised, stepping into the kitchen. She told me once that she doesn't like cooking, finding it a waste of time.

She chuckles softly, smiling at me. "Thought I'd surprise you."

She's barefoot, wearing only my tennis T-shirt. It looks like a dress on her. She's so sexy that all I want is to grab her in my arms and fuck her on this kitchen counter.

"You always do," I reply, smiling back at her.

I pass by the kitchen counter that’s covered by dozens of pieces of paper. "What's this?" I ask.

"Oh, those are my potential roommates. They’re all equally crazy." She rolls her eyes. "They either have a room with no windows or want me to agree to naked Sundays." She laughs.

I can't even force myself to smile in response.

"After Logan found out that you came home from your trip early, he offered to let me come back, saying Chad doesn't mind, but I can't. I don’t want to be a third wheel between those two lovebirds." She giggles, but I can't say a word.

A strange wave of heat spreads all over my body, and at the same time, I feel like someone has doused me with a bucket of cold water. A mix of anger and despair, something I haven't felt for a very long time.

As a politician, I should never feel despair. I told myself long ago that every challenge is an opportunity and should be treated like one.
